TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND VOL.2

Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind:
30 plays in 60 Minutes
Vol. 2

Written and Conceived by Greg Allen and the Neo-Futurists
Directed by Ryan Davila and the Cast

“And…we’re back.”

You may have caught Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind in our previous season’s line up, and we are excited to be back for a fun and chaotic experience! Just like last time, this show will have a set of 30 short plays to be performed in a 60 minute run time–with a new set of plays! Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind was originally performed in Chicago in 1988 by the experimental theater troupe The Neo-Futurists. Their ongoing goal is to reform the idea of live theatre by connecting with those unreached by traditional theatre.

This time around, our cast assisted in directing certain pieces for a truly collaborative experience. This allowed for a more diverse mixture of plays and interesting takes on how they were approached and constructed. The plays range anywhere from comedic to poetic—to truly heartwarming all in one show!

Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind is built around the concept of randomness. We can guarantee a different show every night. This production is heavily shaped by audience participation, but worry not if this is not your thing—you can opt out or control how much interaction with the cast you’d like to have. Each play offers something different to everyone involved. With the element of audiences shouting out different numbers to choose which of the plays are performed, Sundown holds true to the Neo-Futurists’ endeavor to break the mold and give every audience member a unique, one of a kind, experience.

Ryan Davila (Director) has served as Technical Director for Sundown Collaborative Theatre since he joined in 2017. He had the wonderful opportunity to direct a version of this show last year with his co-director and Sundown’s Co-Artisitc Director, Lindsey Hall. Outside of Sundown, Ryan has taught improv, stage combat, and technical theatre for Theatre Denton’s youth education program. Ryan is hoping to be a theatre teacher someday so he can use theatre and art to inspire others the way it has inspired him.
