Trenton Mosty

I first became aware of Trenton Mosty in the Firehouse Theatre’s Gentleman’s Guide where he was an outstanding member of the ensemble. I began to see him in other roles around DFW and always enjoyed his performances and his incredible commitment to character. It was in Runway’s Catch Me If You Can that I realized Trent was star material in his off the charts amazing portrayal of Frank Abagnale Jr. He is quite the song and dance man and has a real flair for comedy. Trent is currently back at the Firehouse stopping the show in Rock of Ages . Take a few moments to read about DFW rising star Trenton Mosty.

When was your first time on stage?

My 1st time on stage was performing Gilbert and Sullivan’s Pirates of Penzance my sophomore year of high school! I was in the pirate ensemble, I was dressed in all blue and was actually referred to as the blueberry pirate. I remembered walking into music rehearsals scared yet excited. There were so many upperclassmen that I looked up to and I wanted to make a good impression. When it came time for the 1st music rehearsal it was stressed just how important learning the music was so I went home with my rehearse score CD and learned every song. And I mean every song… I got so excited with the rehearse score program that I learned all the pirates, policemen, Stanley’s daughters and the rest of the principal’s parts. It was so much fun to learn everything that by the time we got back to music rehearsals I was caught singing all the parts! Our music director was so surprised that she made me sing other people’s parts if they were ever struggling. Hopefully I didn’t annoy them too much by me knowing everything but I carried that skill of learning anything and everything I can into my professional career, and it has since proved a huge asset!

When did you know you wanted to be an actor?

I think I knew I really wanted to be an actor after my junior year musical, Godspell. Our whole concept for the show was that of a rock concert and instead of flowers like the original we incorporated back- stage passes! We even thrifted all our own costumes as a cast and had quite an eclectic line up. The story of Godspell tells parables from the book of Matthew but its overarching theme is that of the Beautiful City we create together. At least that’s the message my theater director, Mr. T wanted to instill with this show. Keeping with that theme of community I felt an overwhelming bond with my cast and really resonated with the shows message. It stayed with and made me realize just how much joy theatre brings me and the joy I can spread I can on stage.

Who is your greatest mentor?

Oh there isn’t one that just sticks out to me so I wanna shout-out quite a few people if that’s alright!

Karen-Mabry Lewis, Breanne Strawn Brown, Wini Council, Dr. Kevin Eckard & the late Dr. Jennifer Glidden. Thank you for helping me find my voice and encouraging me to continue in my path!

Another thank you to Kelle Fraser, Kelly McCain, Amy-Reynolds Reed, Michael Lomeka and Ryan Steer for pushing me to a competent dancer and to be more comfortable in my own body.

And certainly not last, Brandon Tijerina, Rob Schneider, Mark Mullino, Chris Ramirez and Benjamin Keegan Arnold for teaching me to be a better human and what it means to be an actor.

What role have you enjoyed the most in your career so far?

There are so many great ones but without a doubt I’d have to say Eddie Kettle in Very Good Eddie! A cute little farce by Jerome Kern, the king of the Princess Musicals. Eddie taught me a lot about myself as an actor and human and was so beyond fun to play. I mean who doesn’t love being a little guy running around the Catskills getting into one situation after another?! Such a riotous show if you ever have the chance to do it. (I don’t know who needs to hear this but DFW YOU NEED TO DO THIS SHOW!!!)

Do you have a dream role?

Oh goodness so many but I will only list some of my favorites! Seymour Krelborn, Stine, Emmett Forrest and Bobby Strong. And a new personal one you’ve suggested to me! Chuck Baxter from Promises Promises!

What person(s) would you like to be on stage with?

Now this list is another that I could name so many but I will keep it as minimal as I can! Rob McClure, Lindsey Mendez, Betsy Wolfe, Christy Altomare, Brian D’Arcy James and Hunter Foster (who actually directed me in a show once!)

What performances have you seen that impressed you?

Seeing the national tours of Wicked, The Color Purple and Falsettos were life changing! As well as the West End production of Kinky Boots which has stuck with me for a long time!

What are your career goals?

I mean just like any theatre kid, Broadway is the ultimate goal but before then I want to join a national tour and travel around the country. I think about that one all the time. To see the country or even other countries and perform in a new theatre every other day, its a dream that keeps me going. I know I will make it someday soon, just waiting for the right opportunity to come my way.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Not sure a lot of people know this about myself but I am an Eagle Scout and spent many years camping, hiking and canoeing across the country. I’ve recently gotten into reading and I’m loving every second of it! I have a big heart and often times wear it on my sleeve but who doesn’t am I right! I am big nerd when it comes to musical theatre history and love learning new things about the past! I am also a bit of an extroverted introvert but I love meeting new people and learning about all their experiences!
